Trump Extends Invitation to India to Join 'Board of Peace' for Gaza

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump has extended an invitation to India to join a newly established international body tasked with overseeing governance and reconstruction in Gaza following the devastating conflict.

The White House officially launched Phase Two of its Gaza peace initiative last week, creating the so-called 'Board of Peace' to stabilize the Palestinian territory.

US ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, revealed the invitation Sunday by posting Trump's letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on X. The board aims to foster effective governance that delivers stability and economic prosperity to the war-ravaged enclave, Gor stated.

While the complete roster remains undisclosed, AP confirmed at least a dozen nations have received invitations, including Pakistan and Türkiye. India Today reported the final membership list will likely be announced during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, within days.

The founding executive board, chaired by Trump, includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

According to the body's charter obtained by multiple media organizations, participating nations must contribute a minimum $1 billion to maintain board membership beyond three years. The group will guide Gaza's transformation as the October 2025 ceasefire progresses into its second phase, focusing on deploying international security forces, dismantling Hamas military capabilities, and rebuilding the devastated territory, media detailed.

Israel has rejected the executive committee structure announced by the White House, declaring it "was not coordinated with Israel and is contrary to its policy."

Hungary has embraced the proposal, while Italy and Canada have expressed cautious support. Both Russia and China abstained from a November 2025 UN Security Council vote adopting a resolution that endorsed Trump's Gaza peace framework.
